“VR modelling helps the user to precieve upcoming premisses realisticly from the start. This way user-oriented design is better utilized.”

KYS PATIENT ROOM
Upcoming Kuopio University hospitals patient rooms were modelled to virtual reality, so that designed solutions could be tested before anything was actually built. Normally physical modelrooms are built, which takes time and a lot of resources. Now the end users can visit the premisses even during the initial design phase and get to influence the design and functionality with feedback. This way the end user gets to be heard, and even the most imaginative ideas can be easily tested.
Hospital Design-utility is a part of our upcoming VR Desing Space product family, within in which our tools enable, for example, realistic movement of beds and wheelchairs inside the designed area. These funtionalities ease the understanding of sufficiency of the space on a concrete level. Users get to change the locations of electric sockets and switches, try out the height of surfaces and modify the patient panels to their liking. Even different architectural solutions and surface materials can be tested realisticly. Designs are then updated based on the given feedback and all the errors found through the VR- model realize eventually as significant savings and better end products.
VR- models can also be saved for different presentations, as 360 degree images and videos. In addition, the VR Design Space enables user experiences to multiple participants simultaniously. Exploring the premisses doesn’t even require any special equipment and is available by handheld devices.
